“But wait, there’s more!”

Originally from Toronto and now based out of Los Angeles & Vancouver, Joey is a sought after Television Presenter, Interviewer and Live Eye Host thanks to his diverse look, articulate presentation and well-rounded live on-air experience. And despite the volume he can achieve with his hair, Joey has worn more hats than most people in his profession.

Before walking the Red Carpet at the Academy Awards alongside the likes of Ryan Seacrest and Giuliana Rancic, Joey was a Food & Lifestyle host on a US series titled, Off The Menu. The three season series followed Shay Mitchell, Charlotte McKinney, Lawrence Longo, and Joey to restaurants across North America in search of dishes only found on secret menus. Prior to that, Joey was the host of The Chef Cartel, a chef competition series with a live studio audience where Canada’s most renown chefs battle in a black-box style competition.

Joey’s live on-air career started in 2013 as a guest host on TSC, (formerly known as The Shopping Channel; Canada's only Home Shopping Network). He was the face of Canon Canada and their product expert for two years before being asked to become one of TSC’s in-house electronics experts. In Q4 of 2016 Joey became one of the regular programming hosts on TSC, undertaking the task of bringing a new demographic into the home shopping space, while escorting the brand into the digital age.

Joey’s talents are not only in front of the lens, his long standing career in film & television actually started off very well behind it.

In 2001 Joey attended George Brown College for their renown Chef Training program, but this was after he’d already been working in the Toronto restaurant industry for several years. His culinary career spans almost two decades and offered a broad range of expertise including: hotel & banquet volume production, corporate restaurant openings, corporate restaurant management (both FOH & BOH), independent restaurant management & consulting, catering, food safety & compliance, retail and grocery logistics, and even professional food styling for commercials like Clover Leaf Foods & McDonald's — yes, all of this before landing his current role in front of (and behind) the lens.

Having attended the Toronto Film School for Post-Production Sound for Film & Television, Joey started as a Production Sound Mixer & Boom Operator which learned him the ability to be involved in the production process at a very early stage — his first professional foray, for an NYFA Thesis at Universal Studios, Hollywood in 2005. He moved on from sound after a decade of projects and made a move into to Production Coordination. This eventually led to his role as a Producer, putting together several local projects and, one of the most ambitious independent films of 2010 titled, ‘Drive-Through: The Story Movie’.

In August of 2018, following the tragic and sudden death of his sister, Joey founded The F.A.T.E. Initiative: The Food Allergy Training & Education Initiative.

On August 8, 2018, Joey’s sister, Joanna, died eating her favourite dessert in their family home, in front of them. Joanna ate something that, unknown to everyone, contained an allergen and she reacted to it fiercely and fast. The food allergy triggered anaphylaxis (the most severe allergic reaction) which caused her airway to close and suffocate. Joanna’s heart stopped for more than twenty minutes before she was “stabilized” by EMS. Joanna remained in hospital ICU until August 24th, until she was given up for organ donation on August 25th. She saved four people — and her heart continues to beat to this day.

In September FATE was founded; the not-for-profit organization aimed at educating and training individuals on the severity of food allergies. FATE offers a free training session on food allergies causing anaphylaxis, called The FATE Forum. Together with his mother, a working nurse of forty years, and the support of his father, they train schools, businesses, restaurants, flight attendants, first responders and all that inquire, sharing the story of Joanna’s death and providing awareness to those that have no idea how serious food allergies can be.
